Corman's World 2012

This is an excellent documentary covering the life of America's most talented film maker bar none! Talented in the fact he was the most observing, cost conscience, self reliant, and fostering those with exceptional talents themselves. If there was no Roger Corman, there wouldn't be any Easy Rider, Chinatown, The Last Picture Show, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, Apollo 13, Robocop, and so much more as we know them. Not that Roger was responsible himself for all those big budget classics, hell no! But, he was responsible for recognizing the talents of Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorcese, Ron Howard, and so many more. And not just say Nicholson's talent to act, but to write and direct as well, Same for Ron Howard, no longer was he Opie or Richie Cunningham around Roger; but an enthusiastic actor and passionate budding film maker in his own right. And is arguable that we might have not known the 1960's as we do today had Roger not taken an interest to glorify The Hells Angels, LSD, civil rights, war protest, and 'free love'. (okay, maybe just more nudity in films then.) I'm not sure if Roger was clairvoyant, or just incredibly lucky to find the right people at the right time with the right subject matter, and get something entertaining done without belaboring it. As there's more talent, ideas, and subjects to be seized upon. And if not, just smack up another monster movie with a lot of fake blood and sexy girls to tie people over. If you feel B movies have no relevance in 'serious cinema', or that no one of any merit ever came from anything shown at a drive in, watch this movie. Or if you think Steven Spielberg and George Lucas didn't step on anyone's toes, it's amazing Roger Corman could still walk after the 70's
