Here's a solid piece of Canadian rock history that deserves more attention than it typically gets. Red Rider's debut "Don't Fight It" captures Tom Cochrane and company at their most raw and unpolished, before they became arena rock darlings with "Neruda" and the massive hit "Lunatic Fringe." This 1979 effort showcases a band still finding their identity, blending new wave sensibilities with the kind of driving rock that would eventually make them stadium headliners. The opening track "White Hot" burns with an intensity that hints at the anthemic songwriting Cochrane would perfect throughout the 80s, while cuts like "Don't Fight It" and "Power" demonstrate the tight musicianship that made Red Rider one of Canada's most enduring exports.
