Al Hirt's *Honey in the Horn* came out in 1963 on RCA Victor and features the New Orleans trumpeter playing a mix of jazz, pop standards, and Dixieland-inflected material. Hirt was a technically accomplished mainstream jazz trumpeter with a big, brassy tone, and this album gave him one of his biggest commercial successes, with the title track becoming a well-known hit. The record sits comfortably in the easy listening and mainstream jazz space that was popular in the early sixties, accessible without being watered down.
