Alasdair Gillies was a Scottish tenor and television personality who became well known through his appearances on BBC Scotland programs in the 1960s and 70s. Released in 1973 on the Beltona Sword label, Scotland My Own Land is a collection of traditional Scottish songs and light folk material performed in the polished, accessible style typical of the era's Scottish popular music scene. The album falls somewhere between folk and easy listening, featuring the kind of sentimental Highland and Burns-inspired repertoire that was a staple of Scottish entertainment television at the time.
