Barbra Streisand's 1985 Columbia release finds her returning to her theatrical roots, covering songs from classic Broadway musicals including works by Sondheim, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and others. The album features notable interpretations of "Send in the Clowns" and "Being Alive," with several tracks arranged by Peter Matz and others produced in collaboration with Sondheim himself. It became one of her biggest commercial successes of the decade and is considered a defining vocal performance record of the era.
