Bill Doggett was an R&B and jazz organist and bandleader who had a massive hit in 1956 with "Honky Tonk," which helped popularize the Hammond organ in popular music. Hot Doggett, released in 1957, captures Doggett and his combo in a swinging, blues-drenched groove typical of his style, blending jazz, R&B, and jump blues. The album rides the momentum of his commercial peak and features the kind of organ-led instrumental tracks that made him a fixture on the charts and in jukeboxes during that era.
