Here's a fascinating piece of Canadian folk history that doesn't surface very often. Bill Leavitt and Don Alessi's "Banjos, Banjos, & More Banjos" represents a unique snapshot of the northern bluegrass scene right at the cusp of the folk revival's peak momentum. Sparton Records, based in London, Ontario, was primarily known for pressing American releases under license, but they also championed homegrown talent during this fertile period. This 1960 release showcases two virtuoso players who helped establish Canada's credibility in what was still considered a distinctly American musical form.
