Billy Joel's 1978 studio album, his fifth, takes its name from the New York City block historically known as a hub of jazz clubs. The record blends pop rock, soft rock, and jazz influences, showcasing Joel's range as a songwriter and pianist. "My Life" and "Big Shot" were the major singles, while "Zanzibar" leans into the jazz side with trumpet work from Freddie Hubbard. It was the first commercially released album on CD when Sony introduced the format in 1982.
