Billy Vera & The Beaters were a Los Angeles-based R&B and soul outfit led by singer-songwriter Billy Vera, and this 1986 Rhino Records compilation collects their best work up to that point. The group played a gritty, horn-driven blend of soul, R&B, and rock and roll rooted in the classic sounds of the 1960s. The standout track here is "At This Moment," a slow-burning soul ballad that gained massive exposure after being featured on the TV series Family Ties, sending it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1987.
