Black Sabbath's fourth studio album, released in 1972 on Warner Bros. Records, finds the Birmingham heavy metal pioneers pushing further into dark, heavy territory while also exploring slower, more melodic moments. Recorded largely in Los Angeles, the album includes some of the band's most well-known tracks, including "Supernaut" and "Changes," the latter being an uncharacteristically soft piano-driven ballad. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward were at the height of their early creative run here, and the record sits comfortably alongside their classic early catalog.
