Blue Cheer's debut album, released in 1968 on Philips, is a loud, distortion-heavy slab of proto-hard rock from the San Francisco trio. The band drew from blues roots but cranked the volume and fuzz to extremes that pushed toward what would later be recognized as heavy metal. Their cover of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" became their best-known track and reached the top twenty, while "Rock Me Baby" shows their approach to raw electric blues at high wattage.
