Bob Dylan's 1979 album Slow Train Coming marked his much-discussed conversion to Christianity, delivering a set of gospel-inflected rock with funk and soul undertones, produced by Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett with Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler on guitar. The album opens with the extended funk-gospel groove of "Gotta Serve Somebody," which went on to win Dylan a Grammy, and includes the apocalyptic title track "Slow Train." It was a deliberate and committed departure from his earlier work, with Dylan fully embracing born-again Christian themes throughout.
