Here's a true sleeper from the Canadian rock scene that deserves more recognition than it received. Bob Van Dyke's "Another...Van Dyke" emerged in 1978 during Canada's vibrant post-pub rock era, when artists like Max Webster and Triumph were finding their footing. Van Dyke, a veteran of Toronto's club circuit throughout the early '70s, crafted this album as a showcase of his evolution from straight blues into a more sophisticated rock sound that incorporated elements of what would later be called heartland rock. The songwriting here is surprisingly mature, with Van Dyke's gravelly vocals anchoring tracks that move seamlessly between driving rockers and introspective ballads.
