Buddy Holly was one of the pioneering figures of early rock and roll, and A Rock & Roll Collection is a compilation released on MCA Records drawing from his late 1950s recordings. The set brings together some of his most recognized songs, including "Peggy Sue," "That'll Be the Day," and "Oh Boy," showcasing the influential Tex-Mex-tinged rock and roll style he developed with his band the Crickets out of Lubbock, Texas. Holly's career was cut short when he died in a plane crash in February 1959, making collections like this a standard way his catalog has been presented to subsequent generations.
