Buffy Sainte-Marie is a Cree-Canadian singer-songwriter who first emerged in the early 1960s as one of the most distinctive voices in the American folk revival. This 1981 Vanguard compilation draws from her late 1960s and early 1970s catalog, collecting highlights from her years on the label. The set includes her well-known anti-war song "Universal Soldier" as well as "Codine" and "Now That the Buffalo's Gone," representing her work as a writer tackling Indigenous rights, war, and social issues alongside more personal folk material.
