Description
Eclipse marks CANO’s 1978 evolution into a more electric, rhythm‑driven sound while retaining the collective’s Franco‑Ontarian identity and multi‑composer structure. The album blends folk‑rock, progressive elements, and world‑music influences, with arrangements built around violin, flute, guitars, keyboards, and layered harmonies.
The material reflects contributions from André Paiement, Marcel Aymar, Rachel Paiement, David Burt, John Doerr, Wasyl Kohut, and Robert Dickson. Tracks such as “Soleil mon chef” and “Cercles de la nuit” highlight the group’s melodic folk roots, while “Ryshnychok” introduces Ukrainian folk influences adapted by Kohut and the band. The long‑form “Bienvenue 1984” closes the album with a more expansive, conceptual structure.
Produced by Eugene Martynec for Martynec Productions Inc. and engineered/mixed by Ken Friesen, Eclipse was released exclusively in Canada on A&M and stands as one of the group’s most polished studio recordings.
