Carpenters' "Christmas Portrait" came out in 1978 on A&M Records and features Karen and Richard Carpenter performing a collection of traditional holiday standards and original Christmas material in their signature soft pop style. Karen's vocals are front and center throughout, with the album leaning heavily into lush orchestral arrangements. Standout tracks include a medley of classic carols and the original "Merry Christmas, Darling," which had already become closely associated with the duo.
