Here's a pressing that doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves from Chicago collectors. *Chicago VIII* marks a fascinating pivot point in the band's evolution, arriving in 1975 as they transitioned from their experimental jazz-rock fusion roots toward the more commercial sound that would define their later years. This was their first album recorded without producer James William Guercio, giving the band more creative control and resulting in a notably different sonic character. The album features some of Terry Kath's most underrated guitar work, particularly on tracks like "Old Days" and "Brand New Love Affair," before his tragic passing just two years later would forever alter the group's trajectory.
