The Day the Earth Caught Fire is the fifth studio album by British rock band City Boy, released in 1979 by Atlantic Records. The Canadian pressing carries catalog number QSD 19249 and was manufactured and distributed by WEA Music of Canada Ltd.

The album blends progressive rock and theatrical pop, featuring the ambitious multi-part suite “Ambition” on Side Two. Songwriting credits include Lol Mason, Steve Broughton, Mike Slamer, Max Thomas, Roy Ward, and producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, who also contributed to arrangements and production.
