Curtis Mayfield's 1973 album "Back to the World" on his own Curtom label is a politically charged funk and soul record centered on the experiences of Black Vietnam veterans returning home. Mayfield uses his signature falsetto and lush orchestral arrangements to address themes of war, displacement, and social struggle. The title track and "Future Shock" are among the standout cuts on the album.
