Dave Brubeck's 1956 solo piano album on Columbia, recorded without his usual quartet, featuring Brubeck performing his own compositions in an intimate, unaccompanied setting. The record showcases his classical influences and his interest in unusual time signatures, offering a quieter, more introspective side of his playing than the group recordings he was known for. A departure from the busy interplay of ensemble jazz, it gives a clear picture of Brubeck as a composer working through his own material.
