Star Dance was recorded in New York in November 1978 and released by Inner City Records, a label known for documenting modern jazz and improvisational works during the late 1970s. The album features bassist David Friesen alongside Paul McCandless (oboe, English horn), John Stowell (guitar), and Steve Gadd (drums), forming a quartet that blends lyrical chamber jazz with spontaneous ensemble interplay.
