David Johansen's 1982 album "Live It Up" finds the former New York Dolls frontman leaning into a polished pop rock sound, a shift from the rawer territory of his earlier solo work. Produced with a more commercial sheen, the record reflects the mainstream rock direction Johansen was exploring in the early eighties before his later reinvention as Buster Poindexter.
