Dennis DeYoung's 1984 solo debut, recorded after his work as the lead vocalist and keyboardist of Styx, leans into polished synth-driven pop rock with a radio-friendly sound very much of its era. The title track "Desert Moon" was a notable hit, reaching the top twenty on the Billboard Hot 100. The album sits comfortably alongside other mid-eighties AOR and electronic pop records, with DeYoung's theatrical vocal style carrying over from his Styx years.
