Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" is a 1988 compilation drawing from the British rock band's catalog up to that point, spanning their late 1970s and 1980s output. The album pulls together some of their best-known tracks, including the MTV-era anthem "Money for Nothing" from the 1985 "Brothers in Arms" sessions, featuring its distinctive guitar riff and guest vocals from Sting, as well as "Sultans of Swing," the band's breakthrough single from their 1978 debut. Mark Knopfler's fingerpicked guitar style and the band's blend of rock, blues, and pop defined their sound throughout this period.
