Don McLean's *American Pie* is a 1971 studio album, though this is a 1980 Canadian Liberty pressing. McLean was an American singer-songwriter who emerged from the folk revival scene, blending acoustic folk with rock sensibilities. The album is anchored by the landmark eight-and-a-half-minute title track, a sprawling allegorical meditation on American culture and the death of Buddy Holly, which became one of the defining songs of its era. "Vincent," a tribute to Vincent van Gogh, was also a major hit from the record.
