Here's a proper slice of Canadian new wave history that doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves. Doug and the Slugs emerged from Vancouver's late-70s scene with a sound that perfectly captured the era's genre-blending spirit – part pub rock, part ska revival, part pure pop sensibility. "Cognac and Bologna" was their breakthrough album, spawning the radio hit "Too Bad" which became a staple of Canadian rock radio and still gets regular airplay today. The band's ability to seamlessly weave horn sections into catchy, guitar-driven pop songs set them apart from their contemporaries, and this album represents them at their most focused and commercially appealing.
