Doug Kershaw's 1973 self-titled album "Douglas James Kershaw" on Warner Bros. finds the Louisiana-born fiddle player and singer doing what he does best, blending Cajun folk traditions with country and swamp-rooted American music. Kershaw had already made a name for himself with the classic "Louisiana Man" earlier in his career, and this record continues in that rough-hewn, fiddle-forward style that made him a distinctive figure in the early 1970s country and folk scene. It's a solid mid-period entry from one of Cajun music's most recognizable ambassadors.
