Dr. Hook's "Rising" came out in 1980 on Casablanca Records, falling during the band's commercially successful run of polished soft rock and adult contemporary pop. The album follows the group's late-seventies formula of smooth, radio-friendly rock with melodic hooks, continuing in the vein of their earlier hits. Dr. Hook, the New Jersey-formed group led by Ray Sawyer and Dennis Locorriere, had built their reputation on accessible, good-humored rock before shifting toward this more polished sound through the late seventies and into the eighties.
