Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show's self-titled debut came out in 1972 on Columbia Records, introducing the New Jersey-formed band's loose, good-humored brand of country-tinged rock. The album was written largely by Shel Silverstein and includes "Sylvia's Mother," which became a top-five hit, as well as "The Cover of the Rolling Stone," which followed shortly after and became one of their signature songs.
