Description

Works (Volume 1) is one of ELP’s most ambitious releases, issued in 1977 as a double‑LP showcasing each member’s individual musical identity before reuniting on Side Four. The Canadian pressing, manufactured and distributed by WEA Music of Canada, carries the 2SDX‑7000 catalog number and the standard Atlantic palm‑tree labels of the era.

Keith Emerson opens the set with a full three‑movement piano concerto performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, blending classical composition with his signature keyboard virtuosity. Greg Lake’s side presents orchestral ballads co‑written with Peter Sinfield, including the standout “C’est la Vie.” Carl Palmer’s side mixes rock, jazz‑fusion, classical adaptations, and re‑recordings of earlier material. The final side reunites the trio for two large‑scale works: Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and the epic “Pirates,” arranged with full orchestra and choir.

This Canadian edition mirrors the U.S. release but features domestic manufacturing credits and WEA Canada perimeter text.
