Here's a pressing that doesn't surface nearly often enough – Eric Carmen's criminally underrated second solo effort from 1977, and this UK Arista edition is particularly sought after by those in the know. Coming off his tenure as the creative force behind The Raspberries, Carmen had already proven his pop sensibilities with "All By Myself," but "Boats Against The Current" showcased a more mature songwriter grappling with deeper themes. The title track remains one of his finest moments, while cuts like "She Did It" and "Marathon Man" reveal an artist comfortable moving between tender balladry and driving rock arrangements.
