Here's a piece of Clapton history that often gets overlooked in favor of his more celebrated works, but "Another Ticket" represents a fascinating transitional period in Eric's career. Released in 1981 on RSO, this was essentially Clapton's farewell to the label before moving to Warner Bros, and it captures him at a crossroads between his blues roots and a more commercial rock sound. The album features some genuinely underrated material, including the title track and "I Can't Stand It," which became his biggest hit in years, reaching the top 10. What makes this period particularly interesting is that Clapton was working with a tight, road-tested band and producer Tom Dowd, resulting in a more cohesive sound than some of his more scattered 70s output.

This US RSO pressing is worth seeking out for several reasons beyond the music itself. RSO was notorious for their inconsistent pressing quality in the later years, but the US plant pressings of "Another Ticket" generally came out well, with good dynamics that preserve both the punch of the rock material and the subtlety of Clapton's guitar work. The album also marks the end of an era – it was one of the last major releases before RSO's bankruptcy and dissolution, making it a piece of label history as well as Clapton's discography. For collectors focusing on Clapton's complete catalog or RSO label completists, this represents an essential piece that bridges the gap between his classic 70s period and his 80s commercial resurgence.
