Eugene Ormandy conducts The Philadelphia Orchestra in this 1981 RCA Red Seal recording of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 3 in D major, known as the "Polish" due to the polonaise rhythm of its final movement. Written in 1875, it is one of Tchaikovsky's lesser-performed symphonies, a five-movement work that predates his more celebrated later symphonies. Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra had a long and well-documented partnership in the Romantic orchestral repertoire, and this recording reflects their characteristic full-bodied sound.
