BIN # R85

Here's a pressing that doesn't surface in the bins very often – the Canadian Dot pressing of Freddy Fender's breakthrough album "Are You Ready For Freddy" from 1975. This is the record that transformed Baldemar Huerta from a regional Tex-Mex performer into an international crossover star, thanks to his bilingual reworking of "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" which topped both country and pop charts simultaneously. Fender's ability to seamlessly blend his South Texas conjunto roots with mainstream country-rock arrangements made this album a bridge between worlds that few artists could navigate so naturally. The production by Huey Meaux captures that distinctive Gulf Coast sound perfectly – you can hear the accordion influences even when there isn't one playing.
