Grand Funk Railroad's 1973 album "We're An American Band" marked a shift toward a more polished, mainstream rock sound for the Michigan-based hard rock group, produced by Todd Rundgren. The title track became one of their biggest hits, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Walk Like a Man" also charted well. The record finds the band moving away from their earlier heavy blues-rock toward a more radio-friendly approach while still maintaining a solid hard rock foundation.
