Grover Washington, Jr.'s "Inside Moves" came out in 1984 on Elektra and finds the Philadelphia saxophonist working in the polished, R&B-inflected smooth jazz style he helped define throughout the late seventies and early eighties. The album features his characteristically warm tenor and soprano saxophone work set against lush, production-forward arrangements typical of the period. It sits in the same territory as his more well-known Kudu and Motown recordings, leaning toward the contemporary jazz end of his catalog rather than his harder bop roots.
