Harry Chapin's 1973 album Short Stories is his third studio release, continuing his signature style of narrative folk rock built around extended, story-driven songs. Chapin was known for his detailed character sketches and conversational songwriting, and this record fits squarely in that tradition. "W*O*L*D," a portrait of an aging disc jockey, became one of his biggest hits and appears here, along with "Song Man" and the side-long epic "Mail Order Annie."
