Released in July 1985, Heart marked a dramatic reinvention for the Seattle-based band, shifting from their ’70s folk-rock roots to a sleek, radio-ready glam rock sound. It was their first album with Capitol Records and their most commercially successful, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawning four Top 10 singles: “What About Love,” “Never,” “These Dreams,” and “Nothin’ at All.”
Produced by Ron Nevison, the album embraced the glossy production trends of the mid-’80s, with synthesizers, gated drums, and power ballads that showcased Ann Wilson’s soaring vocals and Nancy Wilson’s melodic guitar work. “These Dreams,” sung by Nancy, became the band’s first No. 1 single, while “If Looks Could Kill” and “The Wolf” retained some of their hard rock edge.
Heart reestablished the band as arena rock royalty and introduced them to a new generation of fans. Its success helped pave the way for other female-fronted rock acts in a male-dominated industry and remains a defining moment in their discography.
