Herbie Mann's *Discothèque*, released in 1975 on Atlantic, finds the veteran jazz flutist leaning fully into the emerging disco and funk sounds of the mid-seventies. Mann had already shown a willingness to incorporate pop and soul influences throughout the late sixties and early seventies, and this record continues that trajectory with groove-heavy arrangements built around his signature flute work. It sits comfortably in the jazz-funk and early disco crossover territory that Atlantic was exploring with several of its artists at the time.
