Horslips were an Irish band who blended traditional Celtic folk music with rock throughout the 1970s, and The Man Who Built America, released in 1979, marked a notable shift toward a more straightforward rock sound built around a concept exploring the Irish immigrant experience in America. The album leans heavier and more polished than their earlier folk-rock work, leaving behind much of the overt traditional instrumentation in favor of a harder-edged approach. It was one of their final studio records before the band dissolved in 1980.
