James Taylor's 1977 Columbia release JT was his first album for the label after leaving Warner Bros., and it became one of his biggest commercial successes. The record sits comfortably in the soft rock and pop territory Taylor had been refining throughout the decade, featuring his signature acoustic-driven arrangements and smooth vocal style. It includes his well-known cover of Jimmy Jones and Otis Blackwell's "Handy Man," which brought Taylor a Grammy, as well as "Your Smiling Face," both of which received significant radio play.
