Jethro Tull's 1972 album Thick As A Brick is a progressive rock record that takes an unusual approach, presenting the entire album as a single continuous piece of music split across two sides of vinyl. Led by Ian Anderson, the band constructed an elaborate conceptual work built around an extended flute-driven arrangement that shifts through folk, jazz, and hard rock passages. The album was partly a satirical response to the prog rock tendency toward grandiose concept albums, though it became a landmark example of the very form it was poking fun at.
