Jimmy Smith was a pioneering Hammond B-3 organ player who largely defined the soul-jazz sound of the late 1950s and 1960s. This Pickwick release compiles Smith playing in his signature style, drawing on the kind of swinging, blues-inflected organ jazz he became known for through his work at Blue Note. Pickwick was a budget reissue label, so this likely dates from the 1960s or early 1970s and represents a more accessible entry point into Smith's catalog rather than one of his original landmark sessions.
