His parents would raise their six children in Port Morien where coal mining was the communities pulse.

Music would enter his life at twelve years old when he found Eddy Arnold and Charlie Pride records in this parent collection,. He picked up his first guitar at thirteen and began to play three chord country. When he was introduced to rock music he added to his guitar chops, took up drums and formed the group South Paw. South Paw would put John Curtis in the spotlight. It was clubs on the weekends and then off to late night kitchen parties to sing old country songs. Playing music was keeping him out of trouble and he began to look at it more seriously. He wanted to write his own songs. A meeting with Robert Naugle (RIP) would change the course of his life.

Robert Naugle was a poet. John Curtis joined the commune lifestyle Robert was living in and they began to write songs. The first attempts were pretty sketchy but eventually they would get their groove on and produce “Learn To Let Go” and “Fancy” and John Curtis recorded a two song EP. Eventually John Curtis found love, settled into a job as a fisherman and continued to play when he could, In the evenings, he was still writing songs.

John Curtis Sampson debuted his first original work in 2000. The recording “You Got Me” was a strong outing for him and accolades soon followed. Two East Coast Music Awards, - Country Artist of the Year, Best New Artist and The Galaxie Rising Star Award. “When I’m Drinkin’” and “Don’t Cry, Good-bye” make the top 100 on Canadian radio. “When I’m Drinkin’ was recorded by Australian Country Artist Adam Harvey on the Warner-Chappel l label and secured impressive airplay in that country. John Curtis has performed on The Mike Bullard Show and opened for Terri Clarke . From ReverbNation
