Johnny Rivers' L.A. Reggae came out in 1972 on United Artists and finds the California rock veteran experimenting with reggae rhythms alongside his usual blue-eyed soul and rock approach. The album is best known for its cover of "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu," which became a Top 10 hit for Rivers. It captures him at a transitional point, blending the laid-back Los Angeles rock sound with the then-emerging reggae influence that was starting to reach American audiences.
