Johnny Rivers' 1974 album "Road" on Atlantic finds the veteran Los Angeles rock and roll singer moving into country-influenced territory, blending rock with the softer country rock sounds that were prevalent in the early seventies. Rivers had built his reputation throughout the sixties with live recordings from the Whisky a Go Go and hits like "Secret Agent Man" and "Poor Side of Town," and by this point in his career he was exploring a more laid-back, road-worn sound. The album is a lesser-known entry in his catalog from this period.
