Subways Are For Sleeping is the original Broadway cast recording from the 1961 production, released on Columbia Masterworks in 1962. The show features music by Jule Styne with book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and stars Sydney Chaplin, Carol Lawrence, and Orson Bean. It was a David Merrick production that ran on Broadway and is remembered in theater history partly for Merrick's notorious promotional stunt of finding ordinary people who shared names with the major critics and publishing their glowing reviews. The score is classic early-60s Broadway musical theater in the Styne tradition.
