Kenneth McKellar was a Scottish tenor who recorded extensively for Decca throughout the 1950s and 60s, specialising in traditional Scottish and Gaelic material. Released in 1961, Songs Of The Hebrides features McKellar interpreting traditional songs from the Scottish island communities, drawing on the collection compiled by Marjory Kennedy-Fraser in the early twentieth century. The repertoire includes haunting Gaelic melodies and sea songs rooted in the folk traditions of the outer islands, delivered in McKellar's clear, classically trained voice.
