Kenny Rogers & The First Edition's "The Ballad of Calico" is a 1972 concept album released on Reprise Records, telling the story of the silver mining town of Calico, California through a sequence of interconnected folk and country songs. The group, led by Rogers before his later solo country stardom, blends narrative storytelling with acoustic-driven arrangements in a style that sits somewhere between folk, country, and early 70s soft rock. It was an ambitious double album project written by Michael Murphey and Larry Cansler.
